From the National Endowment for the Humanities:
The United States Senate has voted to confirm William D. Adams as the 10th chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities today (July 9, 2014). He will succeed Jim Leach, who announced his resignation last year.
Most recently, Adams was president of Colby College in Waterville, Maine, serving in that capacity from 2000 until his retirement in June of this year. His began his career teaching political philosophy at Santa Clara University in California, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1986 he moved to Stanford University where he coordinated the Great Works in Western Culture Program. In 1988 Adams took an administrative position at Wesleyan University, serving as vice president from 1993-1995. He became president of Bucknell University in 1995.
Additionally, Adams has served on the board of Unitil Corporation, a New England-based interstate electricity and natural gas utility company, the Maine Film Center, and Maine Public Broadcasting Corporation.
