The University of Pennsylvania Press has recently published The Ragged Road to Abolition: Slavery and Freedom in New Jersey, 1775-1865.  Ragged Road was written by James J. Gigantino II, Assistant Professor of History at the University of Arkansas who specializes in the history of slavery.  The book explores the effect gradual abolition of slavery in the North in general and New Jersey in particular, had on the formation of African American communities.
