The Centre Gallery announces its newest showcase: The Charles L. Blockson Exhibition. The exhibition is open to the public every Thursday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm, at the Centre Theater in Norristown, PA, and will be on display until May 29, 2023.
Charles L. Blockson, born in 1933, is a historian, bibliophile, and author. He is well known for his expertise in Black genealogy and the Underground Railroad. Throughout his life, he amassed a vast collection of rare books, periodicals, correspondence, photos, artifacts, and memorabilia.
The Charles L. Blockson Exhibition highlights Blockson’s life’s work of documenting the global Black experience through history. The exhibition features items such as photos by John W. Mosley, a Philadelphian photographer who documented black life in and around Philadelphia from the late 1930s through the 1960s, and the “Men of Color” Civil War recruitment poster issued in 1863.
