The American Association for State and Local History Presents Awards to Mid-Atlantic Projects

Organizations from the Mid-Atlantic Region were among the recipients of the 2023 Albert B. Cory Award and Awards of Excellence given by the American Association for State and Local History.

The Harrison Township Historical Society was chosen as the recipient for the 2023 Albert B. Corey Award for the Tornado Rapid Response Project. The award recognizes primarily volunteer-operated historical organizations that best display the qualities of vigor, scholarship, and imagination in their work and is the most prestigious award for all-volunteer institutions.

The Harrison Township Historical Society’s exhibition and oral history project documented the impact of a devastating EF-3 tornado in 2021 on the small community, preserving memories of this watershed event and helping the community process the trauma and shock of the disaster. Powerful images, interviews, and accessible exhibition techniques tell the experiences of local citizens and demonstrate the process of rebuilding a community.
