Superintendent of Independence National Historical Park to Retire

Superintendent of Independence National Historical Park (INHP) Cynthia MacLeod has announced her retirement date of April 3, 2023. She is an architectural historian and has been Superintendent of INHP since February 2008.

From the INHP news announcement: During MacLeod’s time with the INHP the President’s House Site was developed and constructed, the Independence Hall tower exterior was restored, renovations were completed at the Benjamin Franklin Museum and the Independence Visitor Center, the building that housed the Second Bank of the United States was rehabilitated, and the INHP hit a record visitation of over 5 million during the National Park Service’s centennial year.

MacLeod has guided multiple partnerships with several institutions and directed numerous projects during her time at the INHP. According to the INHP, she has also served as Superintendent at Richmond National Battlefield Park and the Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site 1990-2008, acting superintendent of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, acting regional director NPS Northeast Region, and acting Superintendent Point Reyes National Seashore, and staff in two regional offices.

MacLeod will conclude 42.5 years with the National Park Service.
