The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission has approved sixteen new markers for the state. The new markers will include Slinky, accidentally invented at a Philadelphia shipyard, and the Philadelphia Flower Show, held annually since 1829. Fifty-one applications were assessed in total. Since its inception in 1946, the commission’s marker initiative has installed nearly 2,300 of its iconic signs throughout the state, marking athletes, entertainers, civil rights struggles, factories, and Native Americans, amongst many other subjects.
