A Humanities, Art, and Technology (HAT) Festival at St. Elizabeths presented in conjunction with Art All Night: “Listen to the City”

HumanitiesDC will implement a HAT FESTIVAL at St. Elizabeths grant program using $10,000 in available funds. Funding for these grants is provided by St. Elizabeths East, Government of the District of Columbia, Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning & Economic Development. The HAT FEST at St. Elizabeths will be presented in the RISE CENTER. Additional funding for the HAT FEST at St. Elizabeths is provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Cafritz Foundation. The Hat Fest is presented by HumanitiesDC and THE ARC.
Five $2,000 grants will be awarded to a Ward 7 or 8 non-profit organization for the purpose of engaging as a HAT FESTIVAL at St. Elizabeths presenter. Consideration will also be given to an individual(s)/organization(s) with a plan to collaborate as presenters with a Ward 7 or 8 resident or organization. Grantee funds will be used to plan and execute exciting programs related to the theme “Listen to the City.” The HAT FESTIVAL at St. Elizabeths will take place in the RISE CENTER on St. Elizabeth’s Campus. It will also be a part of a larger city-wide event Art All Night: Nuit Blanche DC. HAT Festival at St. Elizabeths grantees will partner with HumanitiesDC staffers to produce a vibrant and memorable festival celebrating the community, creativity, history and culture of the neighborhoods of Ward 7 or 8 and inviting all DC residents to listen to the city. The festival event will span an eight hour period beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 26 and ending on Sunday, September 27 at 3 a.m. Grantee programs should incorporate at least one of the following elements – humanities, arts and/or technology.
Potential Grantees must incorporate the following elements in their grant applications:
1. Be affiliated with a Ward 7 or 8 non-profit organization
2. Projects should be inspired by the theme, “Listen to the City” and incorporate the humanities, arts or technology
3. Provide a marketing plan that demonstrates that you can bring audiences from Ward 7 or 8 and across the city
4. Be prepared to remain engaged with the HAT FESTIVAL over the course of the eight hour event from start to finish (7 p.m. to 3 a.m.); Humanities staff will establish the time period within the night’s schedule when the grantee’s program will be presented
5. Present a program for a minimum of one hour during the event’s schedule of activities. You may be asked to repeat the program during the night
6. Submit proposal through Humanities DC website on-line application process by 11:59 pm July 31

September 26, 2015 — The HAT FEST at St. Elizabeths is pleased to participate in Art All Night: Nuit Blanche DC. This festival is an all-night exploration and celebration of contemporary art, encompassing five of DC’s most vibrant neighborhoods: DuPont Circle, Shaw, North Capitol, H Street NE, and Congress Heights. The impetus for the event is to showcase DC’s creative community, re-imagine public and private space and invite the public to see Washington, DC anew. As part of Art All Night: Nuit Blanche DC, indoor and outdoor venues will showcase work by artists in a diverse range of media – with vibrant visual arts, street performances, live music, and DJs contributing to an unprecedented mash-up of cultural experiences in the nation’s capital.
