Princeton to open map exhibition Nova Caesarea

Princeton University Library will open a map exhibition, "Nova Caesarea: A Cartographic Record of the Garden State, 1666-1888" (PDF) at its Firestone Library on August 15, 2014.

In commemoration of New Jersey’s tercentenary, the Princeton University Library will open a map exhibition, “Nova Caesarea: A Cartographic Record of the Garden State, 1666-1888” (PDF) at its Firestone Library on August 15, 2014.  Visitors to the exhibition can explore New Jersey’s development through coastal charts, manuscript road maps, and early state maps.  The highlight of “Nova Caesarea” are the states first wall maps and county atlases, whose large size allowed mapmakers to include the names and locations of nineteenth century merchants and farmers.  The exhibition will run through January 25, 2015, with special curator talks on August 24th, October 26th, and December 14th at 3PM.

Princeton University will also publish Nova Caesarea: A Cartographic Record of the Garden State, 1666–1888 in the summer of 2014.  Deadline for pre-publication discounts is August 1, 2014, find the order form by clicking here (PDF).
