In September, SEPTA is bringing back six PCC (Presidents’ Conference Committee) historic green and cream trolleys that will carry passengers again on the Route 15 tracks that run approximately 8 miles along Girard Avenue.
Each trolley cost roughly $250,000 for restoration and has been updated with new frames, floors, windows, wheelchair lifts, and HVAC units, reports Cory Sharber with WHYY. Several more trolleys are in various stages of repairs at SEPTA’s Woodland Shop in the Kingsessing neighborhood.
The new trolley system is part of SEPTA’s Trolley Modernization Program, of which they were awarded over $700 million for the project, and will eventually replace every trolley fleet.
