Peter Seibert Named CEO of Independence Seaport Museum

Philadelphia’s Independence Seaport Museum recently announced that Peter Seibert will serve as the institution’s new CEO and president.

Seibert comes to Independence Seaport Museum from the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, the largest museum in Wyoming. At the Buffalo Bill Center, Seibert served as CEO and executive director. Throughout his career, Seibert has worked at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Millicent Rogers Museum, National Council for History Education, and Heritage Center of Lancaster County Inc.

Seibert will be replacing Independence Seaport’s current president and CEO John Brady. Brady is retiring but plans to continue working with the institution in an advisory capacity.

In a statement, Seibert said, “[The Independence Seaport Museum] is a great institution and has both extraordinary collections and wonderful stories to share with everyone, not just in the Philadelphia region but across the country and around the world. Whether by exhibits, programs, and living history or through the virtual world, we will bring to life the rich and diverse history, art, and science of the waterways that surround us. My first task will be to listen and learn from our board, staff, volunteers and the community about their ideas for our future and then work to develop plans to bring those dreams to reality.”
