The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission recently announced 31 recipients of its Historical & Archival Records Care grants.
This grant program helps preserve significant historical records in Pennsylvania and make them more accessible to the public. PMHC selected recipients based on a competitive review of applications by a subcommittee of the Pennsylvania State Historical Records Advisory Board. Local governments, historical societies, and academic institutions holding historical records are all eligible for the award. Any organization awarded over $5,000 must have matching funds.
PMHC awarded nearly $200,000 in grants to 31 organizations across the state. Drexel University Lenfest Center for Cultural Partnerships received the largest grant amounting to $13,590. This grant will allow the center to improve access and preservation of important documents related to African American history. Other awards include $13,000 to Fallingwater, $2,180 to the Hershey Community Archives to digitize a weekly newsletter, and $8,016 to the city of Pittsburgh to digitize and rehouse 24 volumes of city council minutes.
