PA Historical and Museum Commission Accepting Applications For Cultural And Historical Support Grants

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is currently accepting applications for its Cultural and Historical Support Grants.

Nearly $2 million in grants are available for museums and historic sites in Pennsylvania. The goals of the grant program are to provide operating support to museums that are not supported by other state agency funding programs and to strengthen the state’s museum community. PHMC aims to achieve geographic balance in the distribution of funds; no one county shall receive more than than 37.5% of the available funds.

In order to be eligible for funding museums must be located in Pennsylvania, have an annual operating budget of at least $100,000, and at least one full-time staff member. Awarded funding is based on a museum’s operating budget from the most recently completed fiscal year. The maximum funding available to museums is up to two percent of the annual operating budget.

In a press release, PHMC Executive Director Andrea Lowery described the importance of this grant program. “Museums and historical organizations connect visitors with past people, places, events and ideas in ways that are important and meaningful today.  These cultural institutions hold and share culture and history for all Pennsylvanians. As our cultural and historical institutions emerge from the pandemic, the financial support these grants provide is even more important,” Lowery said.

Applications for the Cultural and Historical Support Grants are due by November 4. More information about eligibility and submitting applications can be found on the PHMC website.
