Our Thanks to Tamara Gaskell

On March 9, 2018, Tamara Gaskell concluded her work as Public Historian in Residence with MARCH. Since joining MARCH in September 2015, Tammy’s work has had wide-ranging impact on public history scholarship and practice. Nationally, she became known and respected for role as co-editor of The Public Historian, the leading journal in the public history field, and the facilitator of many digital initiatives for the journal and the National Council on Public History. Meanwhile, at Rutgers-Camden, she was among the most skillful and productive editors of The Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia, and she oversaw the creation of our continuing education program in historic preservation, which in less than two years grew to offer a certificate and numerous courses and workshops every fall and spring. Tammy also participated actively in the Camden County History Alliance and sustained many important partnerships for MARCH in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and the Mid-Atlantic region. Her many accomplishments with MARCH followed her previous significant achievements during her long tenure as editor of The Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. We will miss her very much, but we are glad that she will remain in the Mid-Atlantic in her new position as Director of the Roeliff Jansen Community Library in Hillsdale, New York.
