The New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance will present its first Distinguished Service Award next month.
The award recognizes an individual who has made important contributions to the study and presentation of New Jersey to a broad audience. It also recognizes service to the New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance. The inaugural award will be presented to Maxine N. Lurie, Professor of History Emerita at Seton Hall University.
Throughout her career, Lurie has been involved in public service in the state, teaching, and scholarly work on New Jersey. Among her many accomplishment, she helped cofound the New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance. She has also been a member of the New Jersey Historical Commission for sixteen years and served as chair of the Committee on Grants and Prizes, vice-chair of the Commission, and the Commission’s chair. Lurie has taught at Seton Hall University for twenty-six years and teaches one of the state’s only undergraduate seminars on New Jersey history. She has also authored, edited, and contributed chapters to many published works on New Jersey history.
The Academic Alliance will present Lurie with the Distinguished Service Award on October 12 at Archives and History Day at the Monmouth County Library in Manalapan. The public is invited to attend the event.
