The Athenaeum of Philadelphia has announced that Dr. Michael Lewis, professor of Art History and Architecture at Williams College, has been chosen for a two-year term as Writer in Residence. Dr. Lewis is the author of the architecture history books Frank Furness: Architecture and the Violent Mind (2001), The Gothic Revival (2002), and American Art and Architecture (2006), and a recent volume on utopian city planning, City of Refuge (2016). Lewis will succeed Nathanial Popkin, whose newly-released Philadelphia: Finding the Hidden City, was written primarily during his time in residence. Lewis will have access to all of the Atheneum’s resources and will work at the Athenaeum regularly during his term.
