From H-NJ:

New Jersey Historical Commission Annual Conference

Saturday, November 16, 2013

Rutgers University Douglass Campus Center, New Brunswick 9:00 – 4:30

In preparation for the Garden State’s 350th anniversary in 2014, the 2013 annual history conference will explore the office of the New Jersey governor from the Colonial Era to the present. A panel of former governors will consider the role the media played in their administrations, moderated by MSNBC host of Up, Steve Kornacki. Michael Birkner of Gettysburg College will begin the day with a talk about the unique powers of New Jersey’s executive and highlight some of the trailblazing governors who personally shaped state history. Marc Mappen, Barbara Salmore and John Wefing will explore 350 years of the governorship in a lively panel discussion.

The conference will also celebrate the updated edition of The Governors of New Jersey, 1664-2010 edited by Michael Birkner, Marc Mappen and Peter Mickulas. First published in 1982, the second edition includes essays on New Jersey governors from the latter part of the 20th Century through the first decade of the 21st. Published by Rutgers University Press with funding from the New Jersey Historical Commission, the new edition will be

available in the winter of 2014.
