The Brandywine Museum of Art’s newest exhibition, “Andrew Wyeth: Home Places,” features nearly fifty paintings and drawings by Andrew Wyeth. According to Brandywine Museum, the exhibition is a presentation of “nearly fifty paintings and drawings of local buildings that inspired Wyeth” over seven decades of his career.
The artwork on view is drawn exclusively from the nearly 7,000-object Andrew and Betsy Wyeth Collection of the Wyeth Foundation for American Art, now managed by the Brandywine. Many pieces have never been on exhibit, including the early oil The Miller’s Son, painted when Wyeth was 17 years old, and the watercolor Noah’s Ark Study, painted when he was 87. Both works depict Brinton’s Mill, property that the Wyeths came to own and restore and was used as their primary residence.
