On September 18th Smithsonian Magazine will be holding its 17th annual Museum Day, during which people can visits thousands of museums across the country free of charge.
This year Museum Day acknowledges the impact COVID-19 has had on museums. According to NBC Washington, this year’s theme “Experience America” is meant to get visitors out to explore the diverse cultures throughout the US again. “With many public spaces being shut down for a year or more, Museum Day 2021 celebrates the reopening of museums after long closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Smithsonian Magazine said in a statement.
In the Mid-Atlantic region, over sixty museums will be participating in Museum Day. Visitors in New Jersey will be able to visit the Historic Smithville Mansion, Morven Museum and Garden, and Red Brick Schoolhouse Museum free of charge. Participating museums in New York include Poster House, Williamsburg Art and Historical Center, and Museum of Arts and Design, among others. In Maryland some of the participating museums include the Maryland Center of History and Culture and the B&O Railroad Museum.
