Montclair State University held a press conference in December. Officials announced that the university will receive a $5 million gift that it will use to become an educational partner in the creation and operation of a museum and learning center at historic Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, New Jersey. According to Montclair State University, alumnus and Paterson native Chuck Muth ’77 and his wife, Laura, are making the transformational gift. The gift will allow Montclair to continue building efforts to serve Paterson’s public good.
Chuck Muth graduated from Montclair State University in 1977 and has served on the University’s Feliciano School of Business advisory board since 2013. The Muths also have an endowed scholarship at Montclair named after Chuck’s parents, Charles and Madeline, that supports business students from Paterson.
The museum will be known as the Charles J. Muth Museum of Hinchliffe Stadium. The museum and learning center will highlight the history of Negro League Baseball and the Stadium’s legacy as a cultural touchstone. It will serve as an educational and community hub for the city, Montclair State University students, and faculty.
Montclair will oversee the educational programming for the museum, including curating and presenting a wide range of exhibits and programs. A variety of educational outreach activities will connect the museum to the community. The facility will also serve as the home of Montclair and Paterson’s expanding community development initiatives.
