To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Manhattan Project, honor Manhattan Project veterans, and provide a preview of the new Manhattan Project National Historical Park, the Atomic Heritage Foundation is hosting events on Tuesday, June 2 and Wednesday, June 3, 2015. Both events will be held at the Carnegie Institution for Science, 1530 P Street, Northwest, Washington, DC, a few blocks from DuPont Circle.
A reunion and reception for Manhattan Project veterans and their families will be held on Tuesday, June 2 beginning at 2:30 PM. This will be a chance for Manhattan Project veterans and their families to share their memories, followed by a reception. Several veterans who worked on the Manhattan Project in DC will speak.
On Wednesday, June 3, a symposium will feature a discussion of the new park by Senator Martin Heinrich of New Mexico and officials from the Departments of Energy and Interior. Other sessions with veterans and experts will reflect on the Manhattan Project and its legacy for today. Experts Richard Rhodes, Martin Sherwin, Kai Bird, Robert S. Norris, Denise Kiernan, and Alex Wellerstein are among the committed speakers, along with Manhattan Project veterans. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. For the full agenda, please click here.
