Lincoln Scholar Harold Holzer to Deliver Keynote Address at Gettysburg Rededication

Holzer, whose latest book won the 2015 Lincoln Award, will deliver the address on November 19, 2017 to mark the 154th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address.

One of the nation’s foremost Lincoln scholars will deliver the keynote address at the 2017 Dedication Day events at Gettysburg National Military Park. Harold Holzer, whose latest book, Lincoln and the Power of the Press: the War for Public Opinion, won the 2015 Lincoln Award, will deliver the address on November 19, 2017 to mark the 154th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. Since 1938, the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania has held a ceremony to rededicate the Soldiers’ National Cemetery at Gettysburg, standing where Lincoln delivered his famous speech in 1863. The day was formally recognized as Dedication Day in 1946. Holzer will join a long line of influential Americans who have had the honor to present the keynote address, including Civil War scholar Shelby Foote, documentarian Ken Burns, and former Presidents of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Harry Truman. The Dedication Day ceremonies begin at 10 am and are open to the public.
