Philadelphia will soon host the sixteenth annual conference of the New Directions in the Humanities Research Network. The conference will be held at the University of Pennsylvania from July 5-7, 2018. It was first held in 2003 at the University of the Aegean on the island of Rhodes, Greece and has moved locations every year since then.
The theme for the 2018 conference is Reconsidering Freedom. Speakers for the conference include UPenn’s Stewart Varner and Paul M. Farber, managing directors of the Price Lab for Digital Humanities and the Penn Program in Environmental Humanities, respectively. Joining them is Sidonie Smith, the Lorna G. Goodison Distinguished University Professor of English and Women’s Studies at the University of Michigan. Themes include cultural, linguistic, literary, political, and community studies, along with humanities education. Presenting scholars hail from around the globe and a range of disciplines and backgrounds.
