The New Jersey Caucus of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference is pleased to announce that their Innovative Archives Award for 2015 will be given to the Township of Ocean Historical Museum.
The Museum exhibits innovation by bringing together a variety of experiences in creative and productive ways. It produces an informative web site, makes wise use of highly motivated volunteers, and reaches out to the community through these same volunteers. Using creative programming and utilizing archival material and historic artifacts, they tell the story of New Jersey’s history to audiences of all ages. Their activities include everything from exhibitions and lectures, to a ghost tour, to a children’s tea party complete with a history lesson. They also use “junior docents” from the local high school to help with museum functions, thus engendering an appreciation of historical resources among future generations. In finding so many creative ways to engage the community while also ensuring access to its research library, the organization has demonstrated innovation in making New Jersey history accessible. The Award will be given on Saturday, October 3, during Archives & History Day at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Road, Manalapan, N.J. Over 60 history organizations will have tables at the event, which is free and open to the public. For more information: http://co.monmouth.nj.us/page.aspx?Id=4517.
