The Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP) announced that they were selected as a recipient of the Connecting Communities Digital Initiative Libraries, Archives, & Museums Award from the Library of Congress (LOC).
According to the HSP, the grant will be utilized for an oral history podcast tiled Resurrecting Voices: The Philadelphia Black Experience. The project will delve into significant events, influential figures, and lesser-known stories that shaped the Black community in Philadelphia during the 19th and 20th centuries. The first episode is slated to air in the fall of 2023 and continue into 2024.
The podcast is a digital oral history platform that extends HSP’s long oral history work. The HSP will combine new interviews of Philadelphians and its centuries-old collections in African American History with the LOC’s digital exhibitions, photographs, Sanborn maps and the Chronicling America newspaper database to produce five content-rich podcasts.
