From Teaching the Hudson Valley:
Teaching the Hudson Valley, in conjunction with the Southeastern New York Library Resources Council (SENYLRC) is offering a five-part workshop series on using primary resources. The series is free to K-12 teachers, librarians and educators at museums, historic sites and other informal learning sites in the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area and Sullivan County. Interested educators are encouraged to apply as space is limited. The deadline is November 26.
Sessions will be held at SENYLRC’s computer lab in Highland, Ulster County, on consecutive Saturdays beginning January 12. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate for thirty hours of professional development. The series will be repeated in July 2013.
The sessions focus on exposing educators to digital tools and online resources for finding and using primary source material, including the Library of Congress and regional collections such as Hudson River Valley Heritage, as well as issues relevant to digital scholarship, such as format, citation and copyright. Participants will have the opportunity to focus on research topics related to their setting and will create ready-to-use activities or lessons for future use.
