This Saturday September 21, museums across the Mid-Atlantic region will offer free admission as part of the Smithsonian magazine’s fifteenth annual Museum Day.
More than 1,300 museums across the country are to participate this year. In Philadelphia, eleven institutions offer Museum Day admission. There are twenty-one participating museum in New York City, twelve in Baltimore, and twenty-two in Washington D.C. Museums outside of the major cities in the Mid-Atlantic region are also taking part in Museum Day.
In order to receive free admission, visitors must download a ticket to the museum of their choice from the Museum Day website and present it at the museum. Some museums may require printed tickets. Tickets offer free admission to two people.
This year’s Museum Day also celebrates the Smithsonian Year of Music, an initiative highlighting the Smithsonian’s diverse music collections. Institutions participating in Museum Day were invited to create programming that highlights the world’s musical heritage.
