The Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum tells the story of Poe’s years in the city of Baltimore. Already a National Historic Landmark, the house is now be recognized as a national Literary Landmark.
United for Libraries, a division of the American Library Association, runs the national registry of Literary Landmarks. The registry program began in 1986 to encourage the dedication of historic literary sites. Homes of famous writers, as well as libraries, museums, and literary sites have been added to the registry.
The Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum was established in 1949. It is the last standing building in Baltimore that the author is known to have lived in.
The museum will hold a dedication ceremony on January 19th, the author’s 211th birthday.
