Community College of Philadelphia’s President’s Diversity Council begins its event and dialogue series around the issues raised by the Black Lives Matter movement with “Artistic Responses to Black Lives Matter,” on Monday, Nov. 14, from 1:50-3:30 pm, at the CBI Building (18th and Callowhill, room C2-28). Award-winning, Philadelphia-based artists Kara Springer (visual art), Lela Aisha Jones (dance), Kirwyn Sutherland (spoken word), and Rashid Zakat (film and photography) and moderator Nehad Khader (documentary film) will discuss the pressures, complications, and frustrations they navigate and the successes they’ve managed. How does their work engage with the racism and injustice that the Black Lives Matter movement addresses? How do they feel about questions of audience? What changes do they want to see in art? The event is free and open to the public. I.D. is required for entrance to the building.

The Diversity Council plans to hold three to four events in the spring. This post will be updated with additional links when they are available.
