Call for Proposals: Washington Area Early American Seminar

Washington Area Early American Seminar invites proposals about the Atlantic world or American history prior to 1865.

The Washington Area Early American Seminar, hosted by the University of Maryland, College Park (near downtown DC), is inviting proposals from scholars wishing to present works in progress in the next academic year on any topic connected to the Atlantic world or American history prior to 1865.

The seminar meets monthly during term time and its regular members include faculty and graduate students from a variety of DC-area institutions. Papers are pre-circulated and its Friday afternoon seminars, which run from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., are followed by a dinner at a local restaurant.

To propose a paper, please send a brief cv and a title along with a three-hundred-word description of the topic to Rick Bell (rjbell@umd.edu) and Holly Brewer (hbrewer@umd.edu). They especially welcome proposals from scholars farther afield who will be visiting the DC area for research this coming year. For consideration for the 2016-2017 academic year, please send proposals before April 17, 2016.
