For more than thirty years, Larz and Isabel Anderson used their Washington home as a showcase for their art collection, a mixture of Western and Eastern art representative of high society and culture in turn-of-the-twentieth-century America. Emily Schulz Parsons, curator, will examine what the Andersons collected and how they acquired and displayed their art—and how they were both typical and unusual for their era.
The talk will last approximately 45 minutes with time for questions at the end. A tour highlighting several of their most important works will follow the presentation. This program is presented jointly with the Smithsonian’s Freer and Sackler Galleries of Art. The lecture and tour will take place on Sunday, August 16, at 2 p.m. at The Society of the Cincinnati, located at 2118 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C.
