Allen C. Guelzo wins inaugural Guggenheim-Lehrman book prize

Congratulations to Allen C. Guelzo whose book, Gettysburg: The Last Invasion (Knopf 2013) has won the inaugural Guggenheim-Lehrman Prize in Military History.  The award was established by the Harry F. Guggenheim Foundation and Lewis E. Lehrman, co-founder of the Gilder-Lehrman Institute of American History and is accompanied by a $50,000 award.  Over one hundred titles were submitted by publishers in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Guelzo is the Henry R. Luce Professor of the Civil War Era and Director of Civil War Studies at Gettysburg College.  Other publications include Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation: The End of Slavery in America and Abraham Lincoln: Redeemer President, both winners of the Lincoln Prize, as well as numerous essays, reviews and articles.
