The DC Historic Preservation Office (DC HPO) will sponsor its 5th Annual Day of Archaeology Festival on Saturday, July 16 at the Dumbarton House in Georgetown, hosted by Archaeology in the Community, a District-based nonprofit educational organization. Come meet local archaeologists and learn about the science and art of doing archaeology, local volunteer opportunities, and local history. There will be activities for all ages: mock-excavation, hands-on artifact displays, crafts, and lectures. Visitors will have an opportunity to enjoy the Dumbarton House Museum, music, face painting, and some of DC’s best food trucks. Both local and worldwide participants will feature the event live, across Facebook and Twitter. Official hashtags are#ArchaeoFest16 and #AITC_DC, while the Twitter page is @dayofarch.
The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Dumbarton House. Limited parking is available. The nearest Metro Station is the Dupont Circle Station on the Red Line via the Q Street exit. The museum is approximately six blocks west on Q Street just over the Q Street Bridge leading to Georgetown, a short walk or ride on the D2 or D6 bus lines. The event is free to the public and open to people of all ages.
